Superbowl Ads

Ad: 2018 Winter Olympics
In this ad, alpine skier Lindsey Vonn is shown going through life. She is seen as an infant just beginning to try skiing, then moving ahead to show her at multiple competitions with multiple successes. Quickly, it shifts to footage of her facing multiple hardships and failures, including a major injury from a previous competition. The tone shifts again to her powering through her failures, showing her going through physical therapy and working hard, while also showcasing her scars as she still models as a beautiful yet strong athlete. The ad finishes with saying, "Lindsey Vonn is the best of U.S." This commercial plays on the viewers emotions with the idea of female empowerment and overcoming hardship. The target audience would be women, or more specifically women athletes. This demonstrated through the use of a well-known female athlete: Lindsey Vonn. This target audience matches with a theme of our film: women and feminism. The use of a strong yet beautiful female is a commonality between our film and this commercial. The strategy of playing on emotions to emphasize a strong female would be useful to us as well.

Ad: Tide
This commercial uses famous actor David Harbour to poke fun at past popular Super Bowl commercials. The ad goes through various products, however each mock commercial is interrupted by Harbour saying that it is actually a Tide ad since everyone in the commercial is wearing clean clothes. This commercials use of playing on previous commercials to make the audience laugh is a useful technique that has been used in other films within our films genre, such as Deadpool. Having film posters that mock previous famous films is a commonly used but effective strategy that our film could take advantage of.
